Recently I completed another hand painted wood box purse handbag (cigar box purse style), Unicorn Foal. The design for this painting was based on my original unicorn drawing below.
I traced the outline of the drawing on to the front of the wood box, using graphite transfer paper.
Next I painted the background a beautiful ultramarine blue and started painting the unicorn in shades of white and brown.
Once the unicorn was complete I worked on painting the background. The original inspiration for this painting is the very famous medieval unicorn tapestry so I wanted to emulate the tapestry garden around the unicorn, but rather than having a captive unicorn I wanted to paint a unicorn running wild and free!
Once the painting was finished the box was given many coats of high gloss varnish.
This unicorn box purse would make a stunning gift for a friend who loves magical fantasy creatures or a stand out piece for your own collection. It is completely unique and the fine painting and deep lapis blue and gold details catch the light beautifully. It is now available to buy in my Etsy shop here:
